Executive Committee news:
Remember, ABIH grants 1.5 Certification Maintenance (C= M) Points for attendance (0.5 = IH CM point per 0.5 day). ABIH will no longer review programs for CM Points.<= span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'> This means ABIH will not be issuing any new CM approval numbers; instead CIHs will be responsible to calculate their own CM point values and list them on the worksheets. For more info visit: http://abih.org/documents/Termination of CM PointsReviews.pdf.
Program Chairman, President-Elect Frank Hearl develope= d an outstanding program with the theme “In the IH Toolbox: Risk Assessment= b>”. This is a well planned program that promises to be very interesting and educational - sure to be well rece= ived. Chairman Hearl provided the following advance information on his program:= p>
“The
program for the 38th Annual Meeting of the Yuma Pacific-Southwest
Section will follow-on the theme from the 2012 “Synergist” series, “A New E=
ra
for Risk Assessment.” The program =
will
headline presentations by Dr. Adam Finkel, who served on the National Acade=
mies
“Silver Book” Committee producing their latest thinking on risk assessment =
in
“Science and Decisions;” and Fred Boelter who has championed risk assessment
for industrial hygiene and has coordinated previous seminars and workshops =
on
the topic for PCIH meetings. Follo=
wing
presentations by national experts and AIHA’s Risk Assessment Committee’s
leaders we will lead an interesting round-table discussion on risk assessme=
nt
and its future use for IH to close out the first day’s program.
On the second day of the meeting we will explo= re the hot topic of Bayesian Analysis and its use in IH decision making. Combined with the opening program on ri= sk assessment, this should provide a very interesting learning experience.
Dr
John Howard, NIOSH Director, will be on hand to provide an update of NIOSH
activities and share his thoughts on risk assessment and the future of the
profession; and the Deputy Assistant Secretary and 2012 recipient of the
prestigious William Steiger Memorial Award, Richard Fairfax, will give an u=
pdate
of OSHA’s recent activities. In
addition, the elected leaders of the AIHA, ACGIH; the AIHA’s Director of
Government Affairs, and the AIHA Executive Director will present updates and
outlooks for our professional organizations.”
The final program will be = put into our regular format listing presentation titles/speakers after Frank confirms all speakers; then, along with the program you will receive the registra= tion information (we must negotiate meal prices with the hotel – it is the cost = of food that determines registration fees). Look f= or the finalized program in late October/early November (after I come back from Wa= sh DC) or contact Anna Davis [sectreasypsw@gmail.com].”
